The origin of Savate is at best speculation. Some say it’s origin lies with a progression from Pankration, others state that it was developed from street fighting and their desire to kick.
No matter what the origin, however, Savate was developed and is indeed a unique sport to Europe.

During the mid 1700’s in Southern France a system of foot fighting gained popularity, this was called “Chausson” and become very popular amongst sailors
. “Chausson”, became a well played sport throughout the Mediterranean reaching as far as TurkeyIn the 1800’s “Chausson” and Savate were the two favorite styles of street fighting in France.
